De Blob
Have spent a couple of nights with deblob now after picking it up for a steal on play.com last week. The thing that has caught me off guard the most with this game is how massive the levels feel. Looking at most of the vids online, they seem to show one street / block that you have to paint. So far, each of the levels has about 4 of these strung together, with plenty of challenges and painting to be done. i Spent about one and a half hours on the third level last night, making sure i collected and did everything. It’s a very compulsive game, you really want to make sure every square inch has some colour on it.
I’m also a sucker for music that dynamically changes with games, there’s something that really just makes it so much more engaging. The way that the different colours and varying amounts affect the way the tune plays is just great. Orange paint might give you some bass, yellow some smooth sax, purple a pipe organ. All seamlessly added in and out as you travel through the level and paint / re-paint things.
The controls are straight forward, although the jump waggle is a bit flakey, a simple a button tap would have been much nicer. It took me a while to get the wall rolling working well, but it’s mostly down now, you just need to make sure there’s plenty of momentum.
I’ll definately get this finished, probably in relatively short order given i’ve got a weekend free this weekend! Go me!
